Alissa’ s note to families…

Hi Everyone,

Well, our first big storm of the season and an interruption to our regular operations! We’ll hope we don’t get too many of those days in the upcoming winter months!

Picture Day is on Tuesday, October 20, 2020
After Picture Day, order pictures on mylifetouch.ca using your Portrait ID and Access Code which can be found on your Picture Day order form. They have stopped collecting money in advance, now you can look at the photo before ordering. We will collect and send orders from the school if you do not want to order online.

While Picture Day may look different this year, your safety remains our priority. Lifetouch has implemented comprehensive Picture Day safety protocols

Annual restorative planting session in Helliwell Park – Oct 27, 2020

Once again students will team up with BC Parks and Natural History stewards to plant indigenous plants back into Helliwell. The grades 4 – 7 students will participate in the project. The field trip consent forms with all of the details have been sent home today, and will need to be returned by Wednesday October 21st.

The bus will transport the group to and from Helliwell parking area, and students will walk with supervisors to the planting area.

Awesome Tea Towels with Student Self Portraits - (PAC Fundraiser)

The consent form is attached.

This will be our fifth year of creating for the tea towel project! Each child draws a self portrait and then we create a group collage of the images to print onto tea towels.

We require parental consent to carry out the project. Forms have been sent home with students today, they must be returned by Thursday Oct 22nd.

Vanier Students at Room to Grow on Thursdays

We are excited to be starting a new program with GP. Vanier to help support our secondary Hornby students. The program will operate on Thursdays 9-3 at Room to Grow with teacher, Casey Doss.

Vanier students will be a separate cohort. Vanier students (even if they are siblings of Hornby students) will be asked to remain with their program facilitator in their spaces for the day to limit cohort mixing/maintain physical distancing.  If traveling on the bus they will have a separate seating area and will wear masks as per First Student (bus) and SD#71 protocols.

Vanier students will have alternate break times from the K-7 students. We are looking forward to supporting this learning opportunity for our secondary students!

Consent packages Were Due Thursday Sept 17th
Thank you so much for filling out the packages, they are absolutely necessary and important! Which is why if I have not received your package, I will have to call and ask for it.

There are cones provided to ensure the proper space. Thank you for your understanding.
