District prepares for the return of students to the classroom

Please see the attached letter from SD71 outlining the District plans for the return to in-class instruction for some learners.

Hornby Island Community School plans for the return of some students beginning May19th

We have begun to make the accommodations required to ensure the safety of all, following rigorous protocols sanctioned by WorkSafe BC and the Provincial Health officer include daily screening, social distancing among adults and stringent hand washing of students and staff. Stay tuned for more developments!

Library Books – Are available for Hornby Students

Please see the attached document on How to check out a book, it is also available on the website. Please follow the instructions, and contact a teacher if you are in need of assistance. The system is new, and therefore may have some challenges, as well as be a bit slow at the beginning. Please be patient and let us know if you experience any challenges.

The 60 Second Variety Show

 Calling all kids who like to perform and want to share their spark!!

Sing! Play an instrument! Tell a joke! Do a trick! Dance! Juggle!

You're invited to join the first ever...

 1 Minute – Hornby Island School Online Variety Show

Students are welcome to participate as a performer or be an audience member. 

If you would like to participate as an audience member,

You just log into the show to watch it when it is ready, the link will be sent to you.

If you would like participate as a performer

 Pre-record your performance and email it to Mr Flesher at kevin.flesher@sd71.bc.ca

It will be edited into the Variety Show.

* Important information for performers

Your performance must not be longer than 60 seconds.

  • Your performance highlights a spark or skill that you would like to share with our school community
  • Pre-recorded performances need to be submitted Friday, May 15th
  • Put your name and teacher’s name in the email subject line!
  • All performances must be school and grandmother appropriate
  • MC will be Mr Flesher

This is an exciting first! I can't wait to see how it turns out!!


Learning Resource print runs

Teachers will continue to collect requests for printed workbooks etc. And the printing and pick-ups will be happening on an ongoing basis. Please get requests into teachers and once the items are printed, we will arrange pick up times.

Attached is a great document detailing the benefits available for financially affected Canadians, as well as the eligibility and process information.
